Now going postpartum

When expecting, we’re envisioning a beautiful new life. We get these expectations from social media, family, friends, books, etc; however, the transition into motherhood can bring challenges that you would’ve never imagined. These challenges are normal and natural though many feel isolated, ashamed, and the outlets we got our expectations from did not mention how to meet these challenges.

What is the difference between
postpartum depression & “baby blues”?
Baby Blues symptoms typically last a few days to a week or two after your baby is born. They may look like:
Postpartum depression may look like baby blues at first; however these symptoms appear to be more intense and last longer. These symptoms could potentially interfere with your ability to care for your baby and/or handle other daily tasks. These symptoms can develop during pregnancy, within the first few weeks after giving birth, and can last up to a year after birth. These symptoms may look like:

Why should I consider postpartum therapy

To be honest, motherhood is challenging, scary, and unpredictable. It can take an emotional toll on you. When we think about becoming a mother, we get excited to be the one our child looks for when they need a sense of comfort or to be cared for. And we are, but when the time comes, sometimes we realize this role is a lot harder to fulfill than we imagined. As we start to feel negative emotions related to our child, our spouse, and/or ourselves, we’re in a world of shock. Then comes the feelings of guilt and fear about asking for help because of possible judgment of what others would think when we, “knew what we signed up for as a mother”.

5 Years Professional Experience

Therapy can be an extremely beneficial way to properly address these negative feelings and emotions tied to this new transition in your life, and make positive changes and develop coping skills to allow you to live a happier, healthier way of life.
